Adilson da Silva shot 67 and took charge with a three-stroke lead in round two of the R540,000 Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Sishen Golf Club on Thursday.
Morning starter Da Silva, who started off the 10th tee, carded a trio of birdies through the turn and closed at six-under for the tournament with a five-stroke improvement on yesterdayÂs round.
Da SilvaÂs dropped shot on the par-three 17th paled in comparison to his six birdies, three carded on either side of the turn. ÂI drove the ball well today, my approach shots were better than yesterday, and I holed a couple of putts, said Da Silva.
With gusty conditions and firm fairways, Da Silva aimed to keep the ball in play. ÂI knew you could make big numbers on this course, so I didnÂt get greedy off the tee, said the 2011 Nashua Golf Challenge winner.
ÂI took my revenge on the par-fives today, because yesterday I dropped on the sixth said Da Silva, who shot birdie on every one of the par-fives, one of which came from a 40-foot downhill putt on the sixth.
Da Silva was happy with his club selection, which hampered him in yesterdayÂs wind. ÂItÂs difficult to get the right stick, and today I managed to get the right distance, he said.
He held a two-stroke edge over Willie van der Merwe, who carded a one-under-par 71 in the second round to be two shots off Da SilvaÂs pace.
Behind him, Neil Cheetham started off the 10th tee like Da Silva, and went round in 68 after boosting himself with an eagle on the 15th. He is currently at three-under. ÂI was hitting the ball well off the tee, and I was putting much better today, so it worked out for me, said Cheetham.
Louis de Jager and Bradford Vaughn are at one-under after shooting four-under and three-under respectively.
