One of the longest-running series of tournaments on the Sunshine Tour is the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, this year presented by Samsung. Each tournament of the series of six carries a prize-fund of R600,000, and the final is set for Pezula Golf Club on October 29. The theme of the tournaments this year is ‘Evolution’ – of the game, of equipment, of rules, and of players.
Designed by David Dale and Ron Fream of GolfPlan USA, Pezula Golf CLub's championship course is a par 72 over 6,281 metres with fairways of Kentucky Blue grass and Rye grass, with greens of Bent grass. It offers dynamic views of the Indian Ocean, the Knysna lagoon and the Outeniqua Mountain Range. The course prides itself on its diversity of play saying that 'no two challenges, or views, are alike'. The designers have sculpted the course into one of eyebrow bunkers, rolling fairways, indulgent greens and rich indigenous fynbos. There are three signature holes, the 13th through 15th and they are all on the cliff that overlooks the Indian Ocean.
The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series will also have a competition within it: It is a cumulative par-three competition – the Ultimate Par-Three Challenge – where the leading 10 players most under par on all the par-threes throughout the series will qualify for a shootout on the Tuesday of the Final, for a prize of R50,000.
The prize fund will be split as follows:
