Thomas Aiken put ThursdayÂs four bogeys behind him and played a solid bogey-free second round to take a share of the early clubhouse lead in the second round of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters at Doha Golf Club.
Aiken recorded two birdies on his front nine before reeling off eight straight pars on holes 10 to 17. He then closed with birdie on the lengthy 539-metre par-five for a consistent three-under-par 69, leaving him on four-under-par for the tournament along with ScotlandÂs Paul Lawrie who jumped up the leaderboard after a spectacular 66.
They were both one shot ahead of overnight leader Retief Goosen who, along with fellow South African and 2010 Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen, was about to tee off as Aiken finished.
EnglandÂs Robert Rock also fared well in his second round firing a four-under par 68 to join Goosen in second place on three-under for the tournament with many other players still to complete their morning rounds.
James Kingston did not fare as well as he recorded a two-over par 74 to go with his level-par round yesterday. However, he was still well within the cut line. Keith Horne and Hennie Otto looked likely to miss out on the weekendÂs action as they were busy finishing off their second rounds but were far down the leaderboard on four-over and seven-over-par respectively.
