Branden blazing again

Branden Grace burned up the Jumeirah Golf Estates track on Friday to go 10-under-par for the DP World Golf Championship. An incredible six wins in one season is on the cards.

“It’s been great and I’m really thrilled to be in a position at the moment. I’m up there at the moment and you never know what’s going to happen,” he said.

The 24-year-old holds the European Tour record for the most wins in a single season after his superb 2012 season. He has only gone from strength to strength this year, and had to stretch his memory to think back to the same time last year.

“12 months ago I was just thinking of getting my card back. Back then was a grind. You knew you had to make some cash to go on to the next couples of weeks and things like that. It’s nice to know that I can tee it up and not worry about things. I’m pretty set for the next couple of years of my life and I don’t have that many issues out there, so it’s nice to play what you love,” he said.

He’ll face the toughest opponents at the weekend in Dubai, with Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald and Louis Oosthuizen all in the mix. His competitors only serve to show just how far he’s come. In turn, Grace’s success has hit a chord with some of the Sunshine Tour pros, and he’ll surely look to finish the European season on a high.

“I know I’m a big inspiration for the guys back home,” he said. “It’s nice to know that I am and to give some of the guys hope. There’s a lot of guys who’ve tried for a couple of years and it’s nice for them to see this and for me it’s great to be an inspiration for a few of guys.

“I’m really excited, especially the way I was hitting the ball. It’s going to be a tough week and a thrilling golf week!”
