It’s been a stellar year for Grace in the majors, with him sharing fourth at the US Open and taking home sole third at the PGA Championship. Those results at golf’s biggest events helped the 27-year-old earn playing privileges for the 2015/16 PGA Tour season and he’s started his rookie season at this week’s CIMB Classic, which is co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour.
The six-time European Tour winner opened the tournament with a 67 and then on Friday shot 70 to reach seven-under-par at the 36-hole mark of the tournament.
Halfway leader Justin Thomas roared to 15-under-par with a Friday round of 61, yet held a one-shot advantage over Brendan Steele.
Grace started on the 10th at Kuala Lumpur Golf Club and had a quiet start, but rallied late in the round with an eagle at the fifth and a birdie at the seventh to finish the day two shots below par.
Rory Sabbatini and Zimbabwe’s Brendon de Jonge shared 28th place on six-under, while Ernie Els was tied for 52nd on three-under.
