Branden Grace has a lot riding on the European Challenge TourÂs season-ending Apulia San Domenico Grand Final which gets underway in Puglia, Italy today.
HeÂs the leading South African on the Challenge Tour rankings with his Â57,514 from the 20 tournaments he has played this season, and he finds himself in 20th position on the list.
The top 20 after the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final will earn their 2012 European Tour cards, so a good performance from Grace is of some importance.
He is less than Â1,000 clear of EnglandÂs Matthew Southgate, so his position is precarious  but he has his chance in the 45-man field to make sure he gets to play in the bigger league next year.
It will be a tougher proposition for the other two South Africans in the field to earn their playing privileges: Michiel Bothma is in 44th position on Â37,049 and Tyrone Ferreira only fractionally higher in 42nd on Â38,264.
With 12 players in with a mathematical chance of topping the final Challenge Tour Rankings, and all 45 capable of finishing inside the top 20 to secure a place on the 2012 European Tour International Schedule, there is everything to play for.
The two men most likely to be battling it out for the honour of succeeding Spaniard Alvaro Velasco as the number one graduate from the Challenge Tour are the English duo of Sam Little and Tommy Fleetwood, who currently occupy first and second place in the rankings.
