Bruiners to rekindle good memories in Kitwe
His only win on the Sunshine Tour was back in August of 2013, and seven more top-10 finishes followed, and at this week’s Mopani Redpath Zambia Open at Nkana Golf Club, Heinrich Bruiners’ quest for a second victory will continue.
Bruiners won the Vodacom Origins of Golf event at Euphoria in 2013, and even as he made two more top-10 finishes that season, he was never able to follow that victory up with a second. And now, four events into the new season, Bruiners has not had the best of starts as he finished 54th at the 2017 Zimbabwe Open, missed the cut at Zambia Sugar Open, came 69th at the Investec Royal Swazi Open and then came 38th at the Lombard Insurance Classic some two weeks ago.
He goes into this event with a degree of confidence, however, because he has had some good performances at this event, and last year’s share of 11th with Thanda Mavundla and Christiaan Basson is a reminder of that. The year before that also yielded good results for the member of the Gary Player Class of 2017-18. He finished tied 24th in 2015 and the same result was obtained in 2014.
Following rounds of 66, 70 and 73 at the Lombard, Bruiners will know that an improved display is a must if he aims to better the results he has obtained in Zambia over the past three years. He will not be the only member of that Gary Player Class of 2017-18 development initiative in this field though, as he is joined by Keenan Davidse, Makhetha Mazibuko, Lindani Ndwandwe, Toto Thimba, Jacquin Hess, Sipho Bujela, Gerard du Plooy, Omar Sandys, Musiwalo Nethunzwi, Altaaf Bux, Dwayne Basson and Irvin Mazibuko this week.
