Tyrone van Aswegen played 25 tournaments on the Web.com Tour this year, which has honed his game and on Saturday he shot 68 to shift into contention at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open.
ÂItÂs tough in the States and thereÂs a lot of competition. The payoff is big, so there are a lot of guys trying. I learn lot, because itÂs a full schedule and we play good courses, always trying to make birdies, he said.
The six-foot tall Joburger has learnt plenty from the tough competition in America and put it to good use in windy conditions at Royal Cape Golf Club.
Good thing I moved forward, not backwards today. It was tough out there, but I had good fun. IÂve actually had a good year, but I struggled a bit towards the end. I always felt that I wasnÂt far off  kept playing good golf.
Tournament leader Mark Williams teed off the third round on 11-under-par, but van Aswegen was not worried about the lead, and was instead focused on moving into position ahead of Sunday.
He was excited to be back home for a while, but has plans to head State-side and have another crack at it in 2013.
ÂIÂm going back to Joburg tomorrow night, and itÂll be good to see the family again. IÂm going to try Web.com again next year. If youÂre good enough and you play well then youÂll make it over there, he said.
