Sponsors Investec, together with the Sunshine Tour and its partners, have put up R250,000 in prize money for the person who wins the Investec Cup tournament which tees off at Millvale Private Retreat on March 9 next week.
The tournament is the culmination of the year-long Chase to the Investec Cup, during which players accumulated points, starting with the Golden Pilsener Zimbabwe Open last April and ending with the Eye of Africa PGA Championship last week. The top 16 players on the Chase to the Investec Cup Bonus Pool ranking after the PGA Championship have qualified for the season-ending Investec Cup.
The 16 players who play in the event at Millvale next week will be duelling for the Chase to the Investec Cup points on offer there and a share of the R10-million Bonus Pool, with R4-million going to the person with the most points at the end of the event, and the balance of the cash going to the rest of the players in the order that they finish when the points are tallied up.
To add to the intrigue and excitement of the event, it was decided to put up the cash for the player who finished first in the tournament.
The Sunshine Ladies Tour will be doing a similar thing with the Chase to the Investec Cup final event which takes place at Millvale for the top 10 women at the same time as the men play: There will be R100,000 for the winner of that tournament, while the top 10 will still be vying for their share of the R1-million Chase to the Investec Cup Bonus Pool.
For both men and women, that prize money will be supplemented by a Montblanc watch for each winner.
