Charl Coetzee will be looking for a speedy finish in the Telkom PGA Championship on the Woodmead course at Country Club Johannesburg this week if he is to make it into the Investec Cup.
Coetzee had to weather a one-stroke penalty for slow play in the final round of the Tshwane Open two weeks ago on his way to a closing 72 and a share of fifth place in a tournament he led going into the final round.
And heÂs one off the first round pace in the R3.75-million Telkom PGA Championship, a tournament which carries 250 points for the winner in the Chase to the Investec Cup. Those points would lift him into the field for the Sunshine TourÂs summer season-ending tournament at Rustenburg, Millvale and Lost City on March 21.
The 2012/2013 Chase to the Investec Cup season consisted of the tournaments starting with the BMG Classic and ending with the Telkom PGA Championship. The top 30 players on the Investec Bonus Pool ranking, after the Telkom PGA Championship will qualify for the season ending Investec Cup.
The Investec Bonus Pool will carry total prize money of R5-million with R2-million going to the winner  30th place will pick up R40,000. And the Investec Cup will carry a prize find of R1-million with R 163,400 going to the winner.
ÂI need a good week, Coetzee smiled wryly ahead of the second round of the Telkom PGA Championship, Âand IÂm happy enough with my speed of play now, too. Last week was a bit of a misunderstanding, but I was too shocked to even talk about it with the rules official.
ÂThe Investec Cup is something IÂve done the calculations for, and I know how many points I have to get this week  given the number of players from the top 30 who may not be playing, he added.
Coetzee is currently on 207.48 points, and 23 or more will get him into contention for a position in the March 21 tee-off. So finishing inside the top 40 would be just enough, and a top-10 position would give him more than 75 points, which would be even safer.
ÂI have to take each shot as it comes, and I canÂt think about the Investec Cup just yet, said Coetzee, Âbut, heck, yes, I want to be there!Â
