Pretoria professional Desvonde Botes has taken a break from his new venture in the restaurant business to tee it up in this weekÂs Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour event at Pretoria Country Club.
Botes returns to a course where he won the 2005 event of this six-tournament series on the Sunshine Tour, and where he has always enjoyed some success.
Since beating Jean Hugo in a playoff for the title in 2005, Botes finished sixth the following year, tied 12th in 2007, tied 16th in 2008 and tied fourth in 2009.
But while most of his time these days is spent overseeing the new restaurant he owns  The LionÂs Den  he is feeling confident about his chances in the opening tournament on this yearÂs series, which tees off on Thursday.
ÂThe restaurant has been quite a learning experience. My wife manages it most of the time and I just help out where I can. I can tell you that we make a mean steak. As for the golf, I like this course and my game feels pretty good, said the 14-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, including the 1998 SA Masters.
And while Masters champion Charl Schwartzel celebrated breaking into the worldÂs top 10 recently, his younger brother Attie celebrated qualifying for this tournament on Wednesday with a solid 70.
