Christiaan Basson led six Sunshine Tour players into the Final Stage of the Asian Tour Qualifying School with his final round 74 at the Royal Thai Army course in Hua Hin, Thailand last week.
Basson, a two-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, finished in a share of second behind JapanÂs Tomoharu Otsukias 20 players from that course went through to the Final Stage presented by the Sports Authority of Thailand at the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club and Springfield Royal Country Club from January 23 to 26.
Also through from the Royal Thai Army course were Merrick Bremner in a share of seventh, and Jacques Blaauw and Ross Wellington who in a share of ninth.
At the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club, Andrew Curlewis finished in a share of sixth behind winner Lee Jun-hak of Korea, while 2012 Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year Danie van Tonder was in a share of 10th. Francois Haughton narrowly missed out, his final round of 70 leaving him one agonising place short.
At the Banyan Golf Club, SpainÂs Manuel Quiros, SwedenÂs Thomas Petersson, JapanÂs Hirohito Koizumi and EnglandÂs James Sheffield were the four players who earned their places at the Final Stage.
Due to the record number of entries which hit an all-time high of 761 players, the First Stage Section B will be played this week at the Imperial Lakeview Golf Club and Springfield Royal Country Club to accommodate the additional players.
The South Africans will join Anton Haig, Doug McGuigan, Jake Roos, Jaco Ahlers, Allan Versfeld and James Kamte who are directly into the Final Stage.
