Dean Burmester enjoyed a fantastic summer on tour and has top 20 results from his four most recent starts. Big results have earned the 25-year-old seventh place in the Chase to the Investec Cup, where he’s hoping to make the most of the Bonus Pool on offer.
It’s such a huge incentive for us regular tour players. The Investec Cup rewards players who have consistently done well and I’m glad that I could make some good points,” he said.
The Bloemfontein local has played 22 events in the Chase to the Investec Cup, with his biggest points haul coming at the Tshwane Open last week, where he tied for third place.
Points are earned at every tournament from the 2014 Telkom Business PGA Championship until the 2015 Tshwane Open. Bigger tournaments, such as those co-sanctioned with the European Tour, offer up more points.
“It’s great to do well in the bigger tournaments, because they really count a lot towards the Investec Cup. The Bonus Pool is very exciting for us, because there are just 30 guys playing, so you’ve got a really good chance of earning well this week,” said Burmester.
The prize pool of R10-million has piqued the interest of South Africa’s best golfers. George Coetzee, Darren Fichardt and Charl Schwartzel will all tee up this week.
2013 South African Open Championship winner Morten Orum Madsen also joins the field, along with top-ranked Brazilian golfer Adilson da Silva.
Burmester is higher in the points standings than any of those competitors, but it will take a great result at the Investec Cup for him to secure the whole lot. This week promises to be full of thrills for the big-hitting youngster.
