Dean on track for Big Easy year three
Dean O’Riley won at Glendower Golf Club in the maiden year of the Sunshine Big Easy Tour presented by Stonehage. Two years on he’s eager for another season to keep his game sharp.
“This tour helps us sharpen our game. While everyone waits for the full field events this gives us some tournament rounds and gets us back into ‘tournament mode’.
“It will be exciting to see how it goes this year, because there are strong names playing this season. You know that if you’re winning here then you can win on the main tour,” he said.
The 23-year-old has campaigned on the Sunshine Tour since 2011, clocking up six top-20 finished during that time. A contributing factor to that success is the time he spent in contention on the Big Easy Tour, which prepared him for the bigger stage.
“I approach Big Easy tournaments like I do any other event. I want to do well and get a couple of wins to build some confidence going in to the main tour events, so I’m looking to give it my best this season,” he said.
With stronger and larger fields than ever before, the 2013 Big Easy Tour is sure to continue breeding solid talent. O’Riley has matured over his years on tour, but has not lost respect for the high standards on the development tour.
“It does help having a bit of experience on your side, but it’s also good to see some of the new guys doing well. The tour is growing every year, and there’s so much to play for now,” he said.
With 11 tournaments followed by a Tour Championship, there is no shortage of tournaments put forward by Stonehage to continue the tradition of success on the Big Easy Tour. Now it remains to be seen who will rise to the occasion.
