Dylan continues to shine, this time in Spain

Dylan Frittelli has had a magical month, taking sole second at the Telkom PGA Championship, winning his maiden event at Big Easy Roodepoort and then making the cut at the Challenge de Madrid.

With two rounds still to play at El Encin Golf Hotel, Frittelli looked strong as he carded a Wednesday 68 and a Thursday 73 in Spain. He’s got some space to close between himself and leader Francois Calmels, who set the halfway pace at 12-under-par.

But Frittelli has a win under his belt and has moving day ahead of himself. Having already posted 73 may also act in his favour, because he will know that some bad swings do not mean the end of the tournament.

The 22-year-old battled on day two, but managed to birdie the 13th and 18th on his way in, which salvaged some of the damage and left him with a real chance to bring it back on Friday.

Having already taken a seventh-place finish at the Challenge Tour’s Kenya Open this year, he is confident at the top, and will look to improve his current position of tied 19th during his Friday round.

His lone compatriot in the field, Oliver Bekker, battled during in Spain and carded 74, 74 to miss the cut. That means it’s up to Frittelli to fly the SA flag, and he’s doing a good job of it.
