Emiliano in the hunt at Africa Open

Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo zoomed into an early share of fourth at the Africa Open Golf Challenge after carding a Saturday 64 at East London Golf Club.

“When I woke up this morning I knew there were going to be a lot of birdies out there, because there was no wind. I’ve been playing pretty awfully lately, and finally some things are getting better and it’s working,” he said.

The 20-year-old raced through the front nine in 31 strokes, including a run of birdies from the fourth to the seventh.

“I had it going for a couple holes and then made some pars on the back nine. You might make birdies later on, but you have to score in the first six or seven holes – that’s the key to this golf course,” he said.

With plenty of wind predicted for Sunday, Grillo was hopeful that blustery conditions would give him a chance to rein in the leaders.

“Hopefully there is wind, because I’m four or five back and I need as much wind as possible,” he said.
