Fisher leads SA players in Euro Q-School effort

Trevor Fisher Jnr and Jean Hugo carded the best scores through two rounds on the four courses on which the second stage of the European Tour Qualifying School is being played.

Playing on the South Course of the La Manga Club in Cartagena, Spain, they were in a share of sixth place at six-under-par, five off the lead held by England’s Graeme Clark at 11-under.

Also in the field at La Manga is the Sunshine Tour’s Rookie of the Year Allan Versfeld, who was one stroke behind Fisher and Hugo at five-under-par.

At El Valle Golf Resort in Murcia, Spain, Doug McGuigan has a bit of a battle on his hands: He was in a share of 30th place at level par, 10 shots off the leader, Joakim Lagergren of Sweden, who was at 10-under.

Tyrone Mordt was in a share of fifth at five-under and Justin Walters tied for ninth at four-under at Costa Ballena Ocean Club in Jerez, Spain. The leader there was England’s Sam Hutsby at nine-under-par.

At Las Colinaz Golf and Country Club in Alicante, Spain, three South Africans were in action. Le Roux Ferreira was in a share of 14th place at three-under par, with the lead being held by Ben Barham of England at 10-under.

Oliver Bekker and Warren Abery were part of a group on a share of fourth at four-under-par.
