After some consistent golf on Friday, Strydom continued the trend by picking up a birdie on the par-five 17th to card a bogey-free round of 6-under-par 66.
“It was really tough getting up at four o’clock this morning to get here,” said Strydom. “But you’ve got to keep mentally focused, there’s nothing you can do about what nature has to say, so you’ve just got to keep at it.”
Speaking about the conditions on the course and how comfortable he feels on the layout, Strydom said, “It’s a great track. I like the course and it suits me. There are wide fairways and you can hit driver everywhere. As long as your putter and short irons are on form you can get a really good score around here.”
Although there are more thunderstorms scheduled for round two, Strydom says he’s looking forward to the challenge of posting another good score. “The weather is looking okay so far. I don’t know how long it’s going to last but I’m really looking forward to it and I’m happy,” he said.
