Guerrier who hasn’t played any tournament golf for three months, says he decided to play in the event on a caddie’s recommendation while playing in a recent pro-am in South Africa.
He said,” I just came here [From France], to play two pro-ams with friends and I didn’t know about the Dimension Data, and the caddies told me I should try to play it. I had a spot to play and I’m very happy.”
A bogey-free round from Guerrier sees him head into day two well placed having scored well on
he tougher of the three courses. “I’m very happy with a bogey-free round. It was very good. I only made one mistake, on 13, and I managed to get up and down to save par so it was a good round.”
With favorable conditions for round one of the tournament, players were relieved to see the wind didn’t pick up. Guerrier said, “I was a little bit afraid when we were in the practice round because the wind was blowing a lot. But today conditions were perfect. It’s better to play The Links without wind.”
A solid start has put Guerrier in a favorable position heading into round two, where he will be playing the Montagu layout. Although he will be playing a different course, his approach to the round will be the same as today. “We will try to just play the best game we can. Maybe the others [courses] are easier but it’s never easy to always make birdies, so we’ll try to play the best and we’ll see at the end.”
