Headlining the field is America’s Jordan Spieth who famously lost in a three-man playoff, losing to JB Holmes, last year. The next week, Spieth conquered Augusta National in ways few had seen before.
Last week’s runner-up in the WGC – Dell Match Play, Louis Oosthuizen, will also be in the field. He said, “The game is good for Augusta. It’s shaping up very nicely. Augusta will be my seventh out of eight weeks. While I’m feeling great and I’m doing the stuff I need to, I want to play. If I’m playing well, I want to play more events.”
Ernie Els and Charl Shwartzel will also tee it up in Houston in preparation for next week’s Masters. Playing this week will serve as a tool in different ways for the two South Africans as Schwartzel looks to be in a fantastic run of form, while Els will be looking to find some of the form that has seen him finish runner-up at Augusta on two occasions.
Other big-name players preparing at the Golf Club of Houston for The Masters include Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson.
Meanwhile Retief Goosen, Dawie van der Walt and Tyrone van Aswegen will be hoping for solid finishes to improve their standings in the FedEx Cup.
