Jeff Inglis led the pre-qualifying round at Sishen Golf Club with a card of 69 on Tuesday in the penultimate Vodacom Origins of Golf event of 2011.
Inglis shot three-under-par to qualify for his 109th career tournament, and forms part of the top-10 from todayÂs round that will complete the 72-man field.
The Englishman carded four birdies before the turn after rocketing to three-under through four. ÂIt was basically a quick start on the front nine after I sank a 10-footer for birdie on the first, he said.
He moved to five-under with a birdie on the 11th, but found a bunker on the 13th and failed to make it up-and-down.
Inglis drive on 18 landed behind a tree, but he could fall into the safety net afforded by his front nine and made a calculated drop. ÂI didnÂt want to go for heroics, just take the five and go, he said.
Bryce Easton, a winner on the Sunshine Big Easy Tour, finished one shot behind Inglis and will be satisfied with his round of 70.
Derick Ferreira, Johan Bekker and Lyle Rowe all took a spot with rounds of one-under-par 71.
They were followed by Adrian Ford and Irvin Mazibuko, who both carded level-par.
The final three entrants will be pleased to have qualified with rounds of one-over-par 73. The trio comprises Francois van Vuuren, Dean Burmester and Attie Schwartzel.
The course is slightly dry, as can be expected during winter, and with the exception of a mild breeze the conditions are great.
Inglis leading round of 69 in pre-qualifying was solid, and he will be determined to retain his form throughout the 54-hole tournament.
