But this year at the Telkom Business PGA Championship Moore turned it all around with a playoff victory that netted him 450 points for the Chase to the Investec Cup.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these prizegivings. It’s special. I was just happy to get into the playoff. To play an extra five holes and come out on the winning end of it, I’m really chuffed,” he said after winning in March.
That success sparked a full comeback for the Port Elizabeth local and he picked up the ninth victory of his career at the inaugural Sun Boardwalk Golf Challenge one month ago. The Chase to the Investec Cup rewards consistency throughout the season, but victories offer up the most points.
The Chase began at this year’s Telkom Business PGA Championship and incorporates every Sunshine Tour event until the week preceding the Investec Cup tournament next March. Bigger events, such as those co-sanctioned with the European Tour, offer more points.
Moore competed at the 2014 Investec Cup and finished 24th in the standings, which gave him a cool bonus of R105,000. After that sweet taste he’ll be keen to grab a bigger portion and he’s right on target at fourth place in the points standings.
