Jake Roos is one good Challenge Tour result away from locking down a 2015 European Tour card. On Wednesday he set out to achieve that top finish at the Rolex Trophy when he shot 68 for the first round to share 12th place.
There was some incredible scoring during the first round at Golf Club de Geneve and Denmark’s Lasse Jensen carded 61 to lead.
“I hit it very close all day and I just made all the putts,” said the man at 23rd on the Challenge Tour Rankings. “It was just a day where everything went right and I couldn't do anything wrong. I am just really happy to have shot 11 under, that is unbelievable, and a great start to the week.
While Roos didn’t quite shoot the lights out, he certainly got off to the right start in Switzerland and made just one bogey, which came at the 18th.
The 33-year-old ranks fourth on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, with the top 15 at the end of the season earning full playing privileges on the 2015 European Tour. If Roos keeps going this week then he’ll effectively secure his place in Europe for 2015.
