Jared Harvey trained for a year at Fancourt during his amateur days, and that experience paid off when he shot five-under-par 68 at The Links course during round one of the Di-Data Pro-Am.
ÂI lived here for a year when I was in the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, so IÂve good a good feel for these tracks and IÂve played here quite a bit. ItÂs nice to get The Links out the way and focus on the next two courses, he said.
The two-time Big Easy Tour winner was hitting it close from the beginning of the round, and keeping it on the straight and narrow paid dividends as he moved into a share of fifth.
ÂI got off to a hot start by birdieing the first three and the confidence grew from there. You can settle down a lot easier after a nice start like that and feel the rhythm, he said.
The par-73 layout has penal rough, but Harvey emerged unscathed while scoring five birdies and an eagle at the last.
His two-stroke gain at the 18th shifted a good round to a great one, and now the young gun feels ready to compete.
ÂAt The Links I would have taken even-part before teeing off today, so five-under is a good confidence builder. ItÂs always good to come out and shoot such a good score, he said.
