Jean Hugo will have Vaal de Grace Golf Estate underlined as a venue to win at. The 15-time Sunshine Tour champion specializes in the 54-hole events of the winter period and has been prominent on the Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung.
The series holds its fifth tournament of the season at Vaal de Grace this week and Hugo will look to convert another start into victory.
The 39-year-old keeps it simple on the course and that’s part of his secret to success. He won’t try anything fancy, it will just come down to hitting good shots at the right time, which he’s certainly able to do.
He’ll tee off with young gun Callum Mowat, who’s a rookie on the tour with huge potential. It will be a great opportunity for the up-and-coming youngster to play alongside a golfer who stays composed whether he makes eagle or double-bogey.
Hugo will focus on getting the job done on a course that lies in the middle of the Vaal River, right on the boundary between the Gauteng and Free State provinces.
It’s been a great season for the Centurion local, with his highlights of the year coming in the form of an eighth place finish in the Investec Cup and a victory at Vodacom Origins of Golf Arabella.
Hugo has made more this year than any other since he turned professional in 1999 and he ranks seventh on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit. A second win in 2014 feels close and it could spark some big things for the coming summer months. Watch out for the Hugo breakout.
