Daniel Brooks, fresh off a third place finish behind Brandon Stone and Christiaan Bezuidenhout at the BMW South African Open Championship, is looking to build on his recent form in this week’s Joburg Open at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
Speaking about his performance last week, Brooks said, “At the start of the week I’d have ripped your arm off for third place.”
With his fine run of form continuing into 2016, Brooks says his tie-seventh finish at last year’s Scottish Open was the kick-starter to ending his below average performances. He said, “I was struggling at the time and it was about halfway through the year that I started playing alright. A good three or four weeks before that, I got on a nice run and I finished off the year quite strongly.”
Brooks seems to be enjoying the playing conditions in Gauteng, which are starkly different to those currently being experienced in his home country. The Englishman said, “It’s been so miserable back at home and the golf courses we’re playing at the moment are under water. So to go out there last week and come third, I was happy.”
Brooks, who doesn’t seem bothered by the massive support going his opponent’s way last week, says he is excited by the prospects of being in contention. “I haven’t played a lot of golf the last couple ofmonths and I’ve been thrown straight into the deep end. I’ve been a bit rusty, but it’s exciting.”
