Clinic Pic 2NEWRoughly 20 children from schools around Kathu took part in the traditional Vodacom Origins of Golf clinic with the Sunshine Tour professionals at the Sishen Golf Club on Tuesday.

As the Vodacom Origins of Golf travels around the country, the local children in the area are invited to take part in a golf development clinic at each of the tournaments.

“These kids come from the Curro school in Kathu as well as Kathu High School and Primary School, and they all play their golf at Sishen Golf Club,” said Lionel Pedro, the development coach at the club.

“We’ve got a small but very talented group of juniors. Of the children that attended the clinic, three are in the Northern Cape Under-11 provincial team, two in the Under-13 team, two in the Under-15 team and two in the Under-17 team.”

The children were given expert tips on the game by Sunshine Tour professionals PH McIntyre, Chris Swanepoel, Jaco Prinsloo, JC Ritchie, Werner Van Niekerk, Le Roux Ferreira, Theunis Spangenberg, Mark Murless and Jeff Inglis.

“These kids have such an interest in golf and they don’t often get this kind of opportunity to learn from and mix with professional golfers. So this clinic is of incredible value to them,” said Pedro.
