Maccauvlei combines parklands conditions with a links style over its 6,288 metres, and with its hardest holes coming after the turn, the finish of any round is excitingly unpredictable.
Established in 1926 by George Peck, Maccauvlei Golf Club will host the Sunshine Big Easy Tour event on Thursday and Friday this week.
The course was considered the worldÂs only Âinland links after Peter Matkovich refurbished the 18 holes with plenty of bunkers and undulating fairways.
It has since had some of those bunkers filled and is a definite parklands style course, but many holes retain a sand-and-bunker reminder of its links-style heritage.
The par-72 course has hosted four SA Opens, one of which was won by Bobby Locke, and still plays annual host to the Harry Oppenheimer Tournament.
