Ross McGowan holed out on the par-three 11th at The Links at Fancourt from 140 yards on Saturday afternoon to leave him one shot back of German Alexander Knappe after the third round in the Dimension Data Pro-Am.
McGowan had a less than ideal start to his third round on The Links, triple-bogeying the par-four third and he then followed that up with a bogey on the par-four fourth.
However, from holes five through 13, McGowan carded six birdies and a hole-in-one on his way to signing for a four-under-par 69.
Speaking about the hole-in-one he said, “It came in the middle of a good stretch of holes for me. It wasn’t playing that long but the wind was swirling. I’m feeling very fortunate to have holed that one. It looked good all the way and just dropped in at the last minute.”
McGowan is showing some fantastic form of late, having finished tie 10th and tie 12th at the BMW SA Open and Joburg Open respectively and he feels like his game is in a good place.
“Last year, towards the end of the year I felt like I was playing nicely, and I didn’t really get the results I felt I deserved,” he said.
With the final round of the tournament played on the Montagu layout on Sunday, McGowan says he’s looking forward to playing on a course he thoroughly enjoys. “I really enjoy the Montagu. It’s a course that I think suits me. Hopefully I can make a few putts and come out on top of the leaderboard by the end of the day.”
