Merrick Bremner came third in last yearÂs Platinum Classic presented by UD Trucks, and he will be looking to jump to the top of the leaderboard at this yearÂs playing of the event at Mooinooi Golf Club from March 22.
Bremner is a two-time winner on the Sunshine Tour, but his last victory was back in 2008 when he won the Telkom PGA Pro-Am.
And with the defending champion Hennie Otto in Europe as well as last yearÂs runner-up Darren Fichardt, Bremner will hope that he gets the win that has been a long time coming.
He shared third last year with Brandon Pieters and Allan Versfeld, and, in two tournaments this year, has put himself into contention only to let it slip with final rounds which let him down: In the Dimension Data Pro-Am, a third-round 63 saw him in a position to win, but he closed with a one-over-par 73 for a share of fourth and saw Oliver Bekker go on to win.
It was much the same in the Telkom PGA Pro-Am, where he carded a third-round 66, but he battled to find any birdies in the final round as he signed for a one-under-71 as Keith Horne waltzed away with the title.
In fact, his third place at Mooinooi last year had something of a similar pattern: He opened with a 64 to share the lead with Justin Harding, followed it with a 66 to trail Jaco Ahlers by one, and then closed with a 72 while Otto was cruising clear with his 67.
On the only nine-hole course on which a Sunshine Tour tournament is played, itÂs going to take three good rounds  much like OttoÂs 69-63-67 effort last year.
Bremner is one man hoping he finds that consistency.
