Mordt in front in Nairobi

Tyrone Mordt had to come back early on Friday morning to complete his first round in the Barclays Kenya Open, and he made just one birdie in his remaining six holes to take the lead.

His tally of seven birdies in a flawless round on the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi took him to 64, one clear of England’s Chris Lloyd, with Scotland’s Andrew Coltart and the Republic of Ireland’s Niall Kearney sharing third on five-under-par 66 with another South African, Michiel Bothma.

Branden Grace and Josh Cunliffe each carded three-under 68, while Oliver Bekker closed with a two-under-par 69 to be five off the lead together with Jake Roos.

Daniel Greene was one-over and Tyrone Ferreira two together with Alex Haindl.

Other Sunshine Tour members in the field were Andre Bossert of Switzerland at one-under, England’s Neil Cheetham at one-over, Dismas Indiza of Kenya at one-over, Anil Shah of Kenya at three-over, Deo Akope of Uganda at six-over, and Zambia’s Kangwine Chiluba at eight-over.
