Pienaar, together with Trevor Mahoney and Godfrey Mphaga, led 12 other qualifiers into the main draw after 41 hopefuls started the round at Glenvista Country Club.
They will tee it up from Thursday in the 156-man field in the R1.2-million tournament which is returning after a year’s absence from the Sunshine Tour schedule with new title sponsors Eye of Africa Golf Estate on board.
The last man to win the tournament was Titch Moore, who prevailed in the gathering darkness after a marathon play-off against Ulrich van den Berg.
Amongst the other players to qualify were Teboho Sefatsa, Stefan Engell Andersen and Sipho Bujela.
The last man into the field was Gerrit Foster, who carded a level-par 72, and then survived a five-man play-off with Darrin Hedley, Brian Gondo, Ruan Huysamen and Omar Sandys.
