Thomas AikenÂs best performance in the Open Championship came in 2009, when he was eighth behind winner Stewart Cink, who beat Tom Watson in a heart-wrenching playoff.
He has had a quiet year in Europe this year, with his best performance coming back in January when he finished ninth behind Branden Grace in the Volvo Golf Champions.
But he has taken time off to get married this year, and, while he wonÂt be entirely happy with his performance in last weekÂs Scottish Open, he will take a great deal of encouragement from his opening two rounds when he shot 68 and 67.
His best performance on the Sunshine Tour this year was a share of second in the Dimension Data Pro-Am behind champion Oliver Bekker.
If he can find some consistency at Royal Lytham and St Annes, he could play his way into contention again, as he did at Turnberry.
