SA players in the Open: Tim Clark

The Open Championship is the one major where Tim Clark has not come close to victory, with his best performance coming back in 2005 when he was 23rd.

He has endured a tough couple of years with elbow problems, and he had surgery to correct the issue last year after he took his maiden US PGA Tour victory the previous year, winning Players Championship – an event widely dubbed the ‘fifth major’.

But his form is returning in 2012, with a top-10 finish in last month’s Travelers Championship on the US PGA Tour, and a solid performance in last week’s John Deere Classic, where a final round of even-par 72 was his only round over 70 for the week.

At Royal Lytham and St Annes, where distance is less important than accuracy, he could contend, but his short game needs to be better than it was in the final round last week.
