Rory Sabbatini is one of 35 players to have successfully qualified for the FedExCup playoffs every year since its inception in 2007. In that first year of playoffs he finished fourth in the standings. As the seventh edition of the FedExCup reaches its closing stages, Sabbatini has to draw on those 2007 experiences as he looks to move up from his current position of 85th.
Sabbatini has been a consistent performer on the PGA Tour for many a year, but this season has been on the better side of his career. He’s currently on the rise after taking a share of eighth at the Wyndham Championship last week, which marked his fifth top-20 result from his last six starts.
The focus for his week at Liberty National Golf Club will be putting. The Durban-born South African is 18th for greens in regulation on the PGA Tour this year, and so it comes down to putting. Sabbatini has a good history at The Barclays, which is the first of the four playoffs. He successfully made it through to the third round of playoffs, the BMW Championship, from 2008-2011 and will look to improve on his failure to make last year’s the third leg.
A rise in form is crucial at this time of the year, and Sabbatini ranked inside the top-10 for nearly every statistic last week. He holds 85th in the standings, and it would be no surprise if he pulls through with a top five result this week.
