Thabang Simon won the Sunshine Big Easy Tour event at ERPM when he made birdie in a four-way playoff at the end of the two-day tournament.
Simon closed the round at five-under-par and went to a playoff with Dean OÂRiley, Ockie Strydom and Attie Schwartzel on the 18th hole.
He finished his round with a bogey on the 18th and carded five-under, yet in his playoff on the same hole he made birdie and won the tournament. ÂMy caddie said go left, and as soon as I hit the ball it felt great, He said of his winning putt.
The winner of the R100 000 event presented by Stonehage started the day at four-under-par, but dropped a shot with a bogey on the first hole.
Simon returned to four-under-par after he made birdie on the fourth hole, yet dropped another shot with a bogey on the seventh and went into the back nine at three-under-par.
He returned to four-under after the par-three 13th where a good chip left him with a four-foot putt for birdie. ÂOn the back nine my game started to come together, Simon said.
The 369 metre par-four 16th saw Simon card an eagle and move into first at six-under-par. A funny situation as Simon had told a friend of his that he would make eagle just before he actually did.
The bogey he made on the 18th set his score back and he went into the four-way playoff. He drove left of the fairway, but landed his second shot on the green with an impressive wedge shot.
Of the other players in the playoff Schwartzel could not recover after finding the trees with his tee-shot, OÂRiley missed his 12-foot birdie putt and made par, and Strydom missed a difficult 24-foot putt for birdie and made par.
