The stage is set as 156 golfing greats gear up towards the Tshwane Open golf tournament that is scheduled to take place at the Els Club Copperleaf in Centurion at the end of February.
Sunshine TourÂs announcement today [Tuesday, 12 February 2013] confirmed that, amongst others, international golfers such as 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke, winning Ryder Cup captain José Maria Olazabal, former US Open champion New Zealander Michael Campbell and six-time Eurotour winner Simon Dyson will be playing at the Tshwane Open.
ÂThe City of Tshwane is excited about watching these talented professionals compete for the winnerÂs title and the Â1.5 million (R17.9 million) in prize money. This line-up, along with the challenging course at Copperleaf, will ensure that the inaugural Tshwane Open is an event to be remembered, says TshwaneÂs City Manager, Jason Ngobeni.
ÂThe international contingent that has confirmed their participation in the inaugural Tshwane Open is certainly an exciting one, commented Duncan Cruickshank, Marketing Director of the Sunshine Tour. ÂEach one of them is a legend in his own right and we are looking forward to strong competition from our very best local players who will be given a unique opportunity to show their immense talent, thanks to the Tshwane Open.Â
The four-day tournament is co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Tour and the European Tour, meaning that the winner gains valuable Official World Golf Ranking points, a two-year European Tour exemption and a solid boost in their Race to Dubai rankings.
The championship will not only benefit tourism, but also looks set to boost small business in the area as visitors explore Tshwane. The City is also planning to establish development clinics for aspiring golfers from disadvantaged backgrounds. This tournament is not a once-off event. It is an investment in the city and the people of Tshwane.
The Tshwane Open will take place from 28 February to 3 March at The Els Club at Copperleaf, Centurion.
Ticket prices are affordably priced to encourage interest in the sporting event from all corners. Ticket prices range from R50 a day to R150 for the full four days and will shortly be available from www.computicket.com [details to be announced via the official website and Facebook page].
