The Hilton European Tour golfer of the month award is up for grabs and unsurprisingly, three South Africa golfers have been nominated for the accolade. Along with Team Europe as a potential winner thanks to their commanding win in the EurasiaCup, Brandon Stone, Haydn Porteous and Branden Grace have been nominated for the January award.
Stone won his first European Tour event which also happened to be the first tournament of 2016, the BMW SA Open.
Porteous, like fellow young-gun Stone, won his first European Tour event at the 2016 Joburg Open. Both golfers now gain full European Tour access for the next two years thanks to their respective wins.
Grace, who came close to winning the BMW SA Open with a tie for fourth, claimed his seventh European Tour win at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. He became the first person to successfully defend the title having finished two shots better than Spain’s Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Denmark’s Thorbjorn Olesen.
Currently, Grace sits in second position in the Race to Dubai rankings, two ahead of Charl Schwartzel, while Stone and Porteous sit in 15th and 18th places respectively.
