Stonehage Big Easy 30: Morne Buys

A former Springbok tennis player, Morne Buys shot 82 the first time he played golf. Since then he’s won twice on the Big Easy Tour and ranks 13th on the Order of Merit.

Buys has led at tournaments as big as the Telkom PGA Championship, where he shot 65 on Friday and Saturday at Country Club Johannesburg.

The Sand River Golf Club professional recorded his maiden victory at Big Easy Modderfontein back in 2011, but it was in 2013 that he showed some true grit in winning Big Easy Royal Johannesburg & Kensington.

Royal Joburg is a tough track and hosts both the Joburg Open and International Final Qualifying for The Open Championship. For the development tour professionals the course offers a chance to compare with the best and in July Buys trumped the field with two consecutive rounds of 70.

A further five top-20 results spread across the season have secured 13th on the Big Easy Order of Merit for Buys, who resides in Johannesburg.

With heaps of talent and a win under his belt this season, Buys is one hot contender for the Big Easy Tour Championship trophy.
