This year the Investec Royal Swazi Open carries a special hole-in-one prize on the 18th: any golfer, professional or amateur, that makes a hole-in-one on the 18th will claim a stake to serious wheels.
The car on offer? An infiniti FX 3.0 litre diesel, which carries a price tag of R770,000 and looks every inch the luxury vehicle. Everyone has a chance to claim a stake of that sum, but there’s a catch…
Should more than one golfer make a hole in one they will both be entitled to the vehicle, and they will have to decide how to split the prize. It’s a new concept for the tour, but provides for plenty of different scenarios.
There might be a shootout, or straws drawn, or even a shared victory. Whatever the outcome, the car and the competition are certainly exciting additions to one of the more quirky events on the Sunshine Tour.
The hole-in-ones count toward the vehicle during the third and fourth rounds, so players will be tempted to attack the pins on Friday and Saturday in Swaziland.
Five Investec brand ambassadors are in the field this week, and the Swazi Open has proved to be very lucky for them. Just ask Christiaan Basson, this week’s defending champion.
Also in action is Dean Burmester, who made an eagle two at the 18th during the Zimbabwe Open two weeks ago, but was one day too early to win the Jaguar that was on offer.
He’ll be sad to have missed the chance, and you can bet on him going for that Infiniti this week.
