The likes of Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy have dominated the ranking for some time. Their reign over the rest has been because of some spectacular runs of form. All three players have won majors and have backed those wins up with various other victories around the globe.
From a South African ranking perspective, Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel have all flirted with the top 10 in recent years – an indication of the talent that resides in South African golf.
However, the ‘hot streak’ that the world’s best are famous for, has eluded our South African superstars. With the Masters this week, an opportunity presents itself for our ‘top three’ to start the year in superb fashion.
Oosthuizen, Grace and Schwartzel have already won this year, and there could not be a finer stage than the Masters to take their ‘hot streaks’ to the net level. Oosthuizen and Schwartzel both know their way around Augusta National, with the latter winning in dramatic fashion, back in 2011.
For Grace, his recent major results indicate he is more than ready for the first major of the year, and a major streak that could define his career for years to come.
