“We were first off this morning and it’s pretty cold. It’s probably a little more difficult in the morning, but I had a solid day again and I’m happy with the score,” he said.
The Johannesburg local has played Doha Golf Club many times, but never in calm conditions. The benign weather meant low scoring, and he was not about to miss out.
“The weather this week is strange. We normally see a lot more wind, so the scoring will be a lot lower this year. It’s looking good for the weekend, and it will come down to who sinks the most putts,” he said.
Aiken finished tied 19th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last week and tied eighth at the Volvo Golf Champions a week before that. He’s on a strong run and heads into the weekend right up in the mix.
“I’ve been playing nicely for the last six months. I’m feeling a lot more confident and comfortable with the wedges and the putter. Let’s see what the next two days hold for us,” he said.
