The Eye of Africa PGA Championship kicks off on Thursday and it sets up to showcase a fascinating end to The Chase to the Investec Cup. This week players have a final shot at cementing their place in the lucrative final event of the ‘chase’ held at Millvale Private Retreat.
With only 16 spots available in the final event of the ‘chase’, this week there are several players that will be hoping to jump into the top 16 or maintain their spots in order to play in the R10-mIllion Bonus Pool event.
Among those players hovering around the top 16 in the standings are Keith Horne, Richard Sterne and Christiaan Basson. All three players will have their work cut out for them this week at Eye of Africa Golf Estate.
Highest in the standings is Keith Horne. Horne will be fancied to perform well this week as he represents Eye of Africa and should know the new layout better than most. Along with local knowledge, Horne looks to be playing some impressive golf, with a share of fourth at the BMW SA Open earlier this year.
Richard Sterne is position perilously close to the ‘cut line’ in 15th place. Sterne finds himself in contention for a place in the Bonus Pool event thanks to some stellar finishes of late that include a tie fourth at the Tshwane Open and a tie 10th at the Joburg Open. The layout at Eye of Africa should suit him and with impressive finished earlier this year, a confident Sterne will be hard to beat.
The last of out three players to watch this week, Basson made a huge statement last week at the Dimension Data Pro-Am with a share of 13th. Lurking just outside the top 16 in the Chase to the Investec Cup standings in 22nd place, Basson will need a similar performance this week to gain entry to the Bonus Pool event.
