They are the top-10 specialists on this year’s Vodacom Origins of Golf series. The players who in the four tournaments to date have shown amazing consistency on the Sunshine Tour’s biggest series. And they’re expected to dominate again in Parys this week.
The Vodacom Origins of Golf series travels to the Parys Golf and Country Estate for the fifth tournament on the six-tournament series.
This is the first time in the 10-year history of the series that it travels to Parys, a haven for artists and, strangely, the birthplace of American football star Gary Anderson.
But when the first round of this tournament tees off on Wednesday, there will be 11 Sunshine Tour players in the field who will look to continue their overall dominance of the series this year.
All 11 have had two or more top-10 finishes in the previous four Vodacom Origins tournaments. Jacques Blaauw and Heinrich Bruiners lead this group. Blaauw has had two victories in four tournaments, while Bruiners has had a win and a further top-10 finish.
But in terms of consistency, the standout performers here are the duo of Ulrich van den Berg and Danie van Tonder.
They are the only two players in the group who have finished in the top-10 in three of the four Vodacom Origins tournaments to date. And Van Tonder has done so with two second-place finishes. Both are still looking for a victory.
Another player who has also finished second twice on the series this year is Adilson da Silva.
And then Neil Schietekat, Desvonde Botes, Jake Redman, Merrick Bremner, Ruan de Smidt and Steve Ferreira have all had two top-10 finishes in four tournaments.
Trevor Fisher Jnr returns as the defending champion of this Free State leg of the series.
