Trevor Fisher Junior’s third win of 2012 came at the Nedbank Affinity Cup and he was voted Sunshine Tour Players’ Player of the Year three months later. This season hasn’t been the stellar year that he expected, but his title defence at Lost City Golf Course this week has motivated the 34-year-old to win again.
Fisher has not been slouching this year and ranks 10th on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit. He’s been in the top 10 seven times this year, most prestigiously coming sixth at the Joburg Open, third at the Dimension Data Pro-Am and finishing third in the Chase to the Investec Cup.
The suave Modderfontein Golf Club professional heads into the week at Sun City on a high note. He strung together four solid rounds at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open last week and made Sunday birdies at the 17th and 18th of Royal Cape Golf Club to climb to tied fifth.
He’ll face stiff competition this week, most significantly from European Tour winners James Kingston and Dawie van der Walt. Also competing in the heat will be 2011 champion Warren Abery.
With his final title defence of the year beginning on Tuesday, Fisher prepared to use the Nedbank Affinity Cup as a springboard into summer.
