“Finally my dream becomes a reality! PGA Tour here I come! So grateful,” he said shortly after claiming the 24th of 25 cards on offer from the Web.com Finals.
The regular season went well for the Oklahoma City University Graduate, who claimed eight top-25 results on the US development tour. He finished 38th on the regular season Money List and missed out on an immediate card, but qualified for the finals, which is a set of four events.
After four finals the top 25 earners receive cards and van Aswegen, who finished tied 57th at the Tour Championship, slotted in alongside Trevor Immelman as a member of the 2014 PGA Tour.
Van Aswegen has played three full seasons on the Web.com Tour, but from 2014 he’ll play on the most lucrative circuit in golf.
While his consistency is notable, the 31-year-old must take the next step up, but his timing could not be better. He’ll enter his golden golfing years with a chance to make it on the big stage.
The Johannesburger’s biggest moment thus far came at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, which was the third leg of the Web.com Tour Finals. He made four birdies on the back nine at TPC Sawgrass to move from 107th to 19th in the Finals Money List.
With his PGA Tour card wrapped up and the world at his feet, van Aswegen will head into 2014 cherishing every chance to tee up with the best.
