The 32-year-old began the season at with a share of 68th at the Frys.com Open, where he shot an opening 68 and went on to make the cut. He missed out at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open a fortnight ago and will look to his Thursday tee off for a good start.
Last year at the McGladrey he missed the cut on the back of a Friday 74, and he’ll need to produce some magic in order to stand up to tournament favourites such as Matt Kuchar and Webb Simpson.
After breaking onto the 2014 PGA Tour Van Aswegen had a steady year with a handful of top-25 results. The Oklahoma University graduate is now a settled character on the tour and needs to start bringing in the results.
Seaside Course is the host track for this week, but Van Aswegen has not performed well there in the past. As he begins the next leg of his PGA Tour journey it could be the venue that sparks his turnaround.
