Slow greens did not stop Ulrich van den Berg from enjoying his share of the early second-round lead in the R540,000 Vodacom Origins of Golf tournament at Arabella Golf Club.
ÂI struggled to get my speed right on the greens, was Van den BergÂs comment about his main difficulty on the course as he closed at three-under par as he tied for first place with Justin Walters.
Van den Berg started with a birdie on the second, but he dropped a shot on the fourth. He picked up his second birdie of the day on the 506-metre par-five 13th and finished his round in one-under 71.
ÂI was happy with my 70 yesterday, but I felt I could have done better in the second round, he said. ÂIÂm off to the practice green to work on my putting now, and I hope there is no-one who gets too far ahead in the afternoon field.Â
Walters had difficulty closing his round, dropping two shots in his last three holes to go from five-under to three-under par.
Walters was disappointed with his finish, but was happy to be in contention again after he won in Swaziland in May.
Justin Harding, last weekÂs Lombard Insurance Classic winner in Swaziland, was the second player to drop three shots on his last three holes, proving the difficulty of closing at Arabella.
Harding was currently at two-under par and tied for third with Andrew Curlewis. Curlewis had the best round of the morning with his three-under par 69.
