One of the longest-running series of tournaments on the Sunshine Tour is the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, this year presented by Samsung.  Each tournament of the series of six carries a prize-fund of R600,000, and the final is set for Pezula Golf Club on October 29. The theme of the tournaments this year is ‘Evolution’ – of the game, of equipment, of rules, and of players.

Set in the majestic Kogelberg mountain range and bordered by the Bot Rivier Lagoon is the Arabella Golf Course with its tricky bunkers, immaculate kikuyu fairways and inventive water hazards, the course has consistently been ranked in South Africa’s top ten courses. The 6381 metre design is the masterpiece of Peter Matkovich. The 18th hole has become something of a legend amongst the South African golfing fraternity and the eighth hole is widely known as one of the most beautiful par fives in the country.

The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series will also have a competition within it: It is a cumulative par-three competition – the Ultimate Par-Three Challenge – where the leading 10 players most under par on all the par-threes throughout the series will qualify for a shootout on the Tuesday of the Final, for a prize of R50,000.

The prize fund will be split as follows‎:

  • each qualifying player will receive R2 500
  • the winner of the shootout will receive R25 000
