One of the longest-running series of tournaments on the Sunshine Tour is the Vodacom Origins of Golf Series, this year presented by Samsung. Each tournament of the series of six carries a prize-fund of R600,000, and the final is set for Pezula Golf Club on October 29. The theme of the tournaments this year is ‘Evolution’ – of the game, of equipment, of rules, and of players.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the challenging St Francis Links Course is characterised by undulating terrain, greens and variation in length and direction. The consistent layout combines every element of shot making. The bunkers define the quality and character of this course, looking as if they have been ploughed out of the ground. The greens have simply been placed on top of the sand and follow the natural flow of the landscape. All players will find that St Francis Links presents a stiff mental and physical test from the first shot. Fairways are long, immaculate and the greens superb.
The Vodacom Origins of Golf presented by Samsung series will also have a competition within it: It is a cumulative par-three competition – the Ultimate Par-Three Challenge – where the leading 10 players most under par on all the par-threes throughout the series will qualify for a shootout on the Tuesday of the Final, for a prize of R50,000.
The prize fund will be split as follows:
